Trap & Skeet

Welcome to the Trap and Skeet Facilities at the United Sportsmen’s Club!

Club House2

For those seeking to sharpen their shot-gunning skills or to just mingle with other shooters the trap and skeet facilities offer you a fine opportunity.  The trap and skeet shooting facilities consist of two lighted trap and skeet fields and one non-lighted trap range.  We have just added a new shot gunning experience – it’s called wobble skeet.  WOW!  Response has been almost overwhelming.  The difference between wobble skeet and normal skeet is the targets from both the high house and the low house are oscillating up and down so that the shooter can’t anticipate the height of flight path.  It is a real challenge for even the most experienced shooters.

The trap and skeet club house has shotgun reloading supplies and ammunition available for sale.  The range is run by volunteer members of the Trap and Skeet Committee and the normal hours of operation are 09:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday.  The range will remain open year round except for Sundays during winter months (e.g. October through March).  The range may remain open past these hours to accommodate all shooters present.  Special events such as leagues or fun shoots may be scheduled and will be listed below

Current prices are $3.00 per round of trap or skeet for members and $4.50 for guests of members.  Prices and availability for reloading and shooting supplies vary from month to month and current prices are posted in the clubhouse.

A patterning board is available for use at any time and is located directly north of the #1 trap field (far left).  This area can also be used for hand thrown targets.  Hand thrown targets or mechanically thrown targets are not permitted on the trap and skeet fields.  Shot size is restricted on all fields to #7 ½ shot, or smaller (e.g. #8 or #9), with a limit of three dram-equivalent loads.

Scheduled Events:

        •  A Shotgun Derby consists of two person teams drawn at random with prize money for first, second and third place. Sign-up is not required. However, pre-shoot registration must be completed by 5:45 pm, followed by team drawings. Shooting begins promptly at 6:00 pm. There are no gauge restrictions. A handicap system based on the average of your previous (five) rounds will be established to encourage competition. The Skeet Derby is typically held every Monday evening and the Trap Derby every Tuesday evening; however, check postings in the clubhouse for schedule updates. Shotgun Derby’s are open to all members and their invited guests, both experienced and non-experienced
        • There are no registered trap or skeet shooting events or leagues scheduled at this time.
        • Are you new to trap and skeet shooting?  Please check out the two references “Introduction to Skeet” and “Shotgun Sports” located under the Trap and Skeet tab. Also, most shooters would be happy to assist you to any of our shooting sports; don’t be bashful and just stop by and introduce yourself.
        • We will hold a number of scheduled shoots this year and will try our best to keep the calendar current. Please check the Club Calendar of scheduled events listed on the home page for special events scheduled for trap and skeet and other club events.
        • Special events and activities can be scheduled through the Range Chairman, Vern McGaffic at 573-634-7525
